Dr. Janina Dahlmanns, Brücke Museum, Berlin
The bridge to new shores in art: The artists’ group “Brücke” and German Expressionism

Janina Dahlmanns (1972) studied art history, German language and ethnology in Freiburg, Köln and Pisa, Italy. In her PhD thesis, she explored the creativity of artist and graphic Erich Heckel, one of the four founders of the German expressionist group Die Brücke, active between 1905 and 1913. After completing volunteer work in the Brücke Museum in Berlin, where she worked from 2000 to 2002, she has started working as an independent art historian and regularly collaborates with the institution named after the famous art group. Dahlmanns organized various research projects which shed light on the work of the central characters of Die Brücke group. She published numerous articles about the group, which forms the core of German expressionism and represents the beginning of this movement in Europe.

The lecture will be held in English.
The event is co-organized by the Goethe-Institut Ljubljana and the France Stele Institute of Art History ZRC SAZU.
